a space to understand what is happening to you, put in order what you feel and begin to take care of yourself differently

Perhaps you feel anxiety, stress, sadness or tiredness. Perhaps you are going through a loss, a life crisis or difficulties in your relationships. Or perhaps you cannot explain exactly what is happening to you, but you notice that something inside you needs attention and is affecting your emotional well-being or your daily life.

At Calma de SER we offer psychological therapy for adults: a space to pause, understand what you are going through and begin to relate to yourself in a more conscious and caring way. If you are looking for psychology for adults in El Masnou, you can come to our centre; we also offer support at a distance.

We work from an integrative and relational perspective, taking into account not only the symptom, but also your story, your relationships, your emotions, your body and the moment in life you are going through. Our integrative approach allows us to adapt to your needs and to the stage of the process.

You do not need to arrive with all the answers, nor wait for the distress to become a health problem that is harder to bear. Asking for help can be the first step towards understanding what you need and improving your quality of life.

what we work on in therapy

Every process starts in a different place.

Anxiety, stress and emotional regulation

Therapy for anxiety can help you understand what sets off the distress, regulate yourself and reduce anxiety. Therapy for stress makes it possible to identify what keeps it going and develop new ways of responding to demands.

We also work on obsessive thoughts, rumination, feeling overwhelmed and difficulty resting.

Self-esteem and your relationship with yourself

Therapy for self-esteem addresses the way you see yourself and relate to yourself, as well as self-demand, perfectionism, guilt, shame, insecurity and fear of failure.

Relationships, bonds and boundaries

Relationship difficulties, emotional dependence, loneliness, boundaries, communication, intimacy and sexuality.

Grief, break-ups and life changes

Therapy for grief offers support through losses, separations and other experiences that require going through a grieving process.

We also support life crises, motherhood, fatherhood, family changes and processes related to health or age.

Trauma and painful experiences

Experiences from the past that still affect the present, a sense of insecurity, and distress that may also be expressed through the body.

Identity, decisions and meaning in life

Self-knowledge, decision-making, identity crises, work difficulties, burnout and loss of meaning.

Psychotherapy for adults can address emotional distress as well as relationships, the way you see yourself and the life circumstances that are influencing the present.

The aim of psychological treatment is not to apply an identical answer for everyone, but to build support that makes sense for you.

how we work in therapy for adults

An integrative, relational perspective adapted to you.

Not everyone comes to therapy for the same reason, nor needs to follow the same path.

That is why we work from an integrative therapy. This means we do not focus only on reducing the symptom, but on understanding what it may be expressing, how it relates to your story, and how it appears in your body, your emotions, your thoughts and your relationships.

We bring together different approaches and tools from clinical psychology, adapting them to the person and to the stage of the therapeutic process.

Sometimes we begin by putting things into words and understanding what is happening. Other times we need to attend first to what the body expresses, to emotion or to the response of the nervous system.

We work both top-down and bottom-up: from understanding towards experience, and from bodily and emotional experience towards greater understanding.

Because understanding is important, but it is not always enough. We also need the body to feel safer and to live something different.

The therapeutic relationship is part of the process. We want you to feel heard, but also guided, understood and supported with professional judgement.

Every process has a direction, goals and tools, without becoming a rigid formula. We review with you what you need and how the support is developing.

We do not seek to tell you how to live or to make decisions for you. We seek to help you understand how you have learned to protect yourself, connect with what you need and recover more freedom to choose how you want to relate to yourself and to others.

how to begin your therapy process

It is normal for doubts, nerves or even a little fear to appear before you start. Asking for help can also stir things up.

Processes with adults begin with a 25-minute first assessment appointment. During this meeting we will talk about what has brought you here, how you are feeling and what you would like to be able to change.

We can also offer you initial guidance and consider which professional on the team, which format and which kind of support may suit you best.

You can choose the day and time through our online calendar. When you complete the booking, the appointment is confirmed and you will receive all the information you need.

  • Book your first appointment. Choose the day and time that suit you best.
  • Tell us what you need. We will talk about your situation and answer your first questions.

questions you may be asking yourself

Do I need to have a serious problem to start therapy?

No. You do not need to wait until you are at your limit, nor have a diagnosis.

You can start when a situation is making you suffer, when you feel something keeps repeating, or when you need a professional space to understand yourself better.

Do I have to know exactly what is wrong with me?

No. It is common to arrive confused, or simply with the feeling that something is not right.

The first appointment and the first sessions are precisely for beginning to put words to what you are going through and understanding what you may need.

Do I have to tell everything from the start?

No. You do not have to explain your whole story in a single session, nor talk about something you do not yet feel ready for.

You can share what you need as trust builds and the space starts to feel safer.

How long can the process last?

There is no single length that applies to everyone.

It will depend on what you are going through, your needs and the goals you define together. The process is reviewed with you to assess how you are progressing and what you still need.

How often are the sessions?

We usually recommend starting with weekly sessions. In order to build the therapeutic bond, get to know your story better and give continuity to the process, we ask for a minimum of three consecutive weekly sessions before considering a change in frequency.

As the process advances and settles, you and your therapist can decide together whether it makes sense to move to fortnightly and, later, monthly sessions.

In the final phase, we can also move to what we call satellite mode. At that point, as you and your therapist already know each other well and the main process has been worked through, the professional can become your reference psychologist or psychotherapist. That way, you can come back from time to time when you need to, for a specific difficulty, a life change or simply to check in on how you are.

The frequency is always decided together, taking into account your moment, your needs and how the process is developing.

What happens if I do not feel a connection with my therapist?

The bond is an important part of therapy. Sometimes it needs a little time to build, but it can also happen that you do not feel that professional is the right one for you.

You can tell us freely. We will talk about it with you and consider a change within the team, to help you find support with which you can feel understood, safe and respected.
